The Pittsburgh Theological Seminary community is mourning the loss of one of its own. The Rev. Scott Hauser, a Doctor of Ministry student, died Feb. 16, 2017, following a short and courageous battle with cancer. He was 37.

A friend recently said, “Scott was the new Mr. Rogers in training.”

He graduated from Westminster College (BS), Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary (MDiv), and the University of Louisville (MBA). At the time of his death, Scott was pastor of Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Mequon, Wis., and previously worked at First Presbyterian Church of Clarion, Pa., and Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, Ind. Scott also served as a hospital chaplain, campus minister, and moderator of his Presbytery.

He is survived by his wife Lara, and their four children, Simon, Jackson, Lillian, and Charles.

“It has been amazing to see and hear how many people Scott’s life and ministry touched. But then again, knowing Scott it is not unexpected,” said the Rev. Andy Kort, fellow DMin student and pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Bloomington, Ind. “Scott’s sharp wit, pastoral insights and wisdom, humor, compassion, and his love of God and the people of God made him a remarkable pastor, friend, and colleague in ministry. Scott was truly a special gift to the church, to me, and to so many he encountered. While I join others in grieving, also I join Scott who, above all else, trusted in God’s tender mercy, grace, and love.”

Visitation for Scott will take place at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home in Mequon, Wis., Wed., Feb. 22, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Crossroads Presbyterian Church Thurs., Feb. 23, at 11:00 a.m.
