Messy Church is church . . just not as you know it!
Messy Church started in England 20 years ago as a fresh way of being church. For the past two decades, Messy Church has grown around the world (and across the U.S.). This in-person program provides an intergenerational model (liturgy) that is easily adapted to a variety of contexts from small church to large, urban to suburban to rural and beyond.

Johannah Myers is the program director of Messy Church USA. She also serves as the director of disciple formation at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Greenville, S.C. In 2013, she led Aldersgate in starting a Messy Church and the rest is a very Messy history. Messy Church made such a difference at Aldersgate that Johannah couldn’t help but tell everyone about how awesome Messy Church is! As a trainer, she offers more than a decade of experience with Messy Church plus stories of Messy Churches around the world.
A lifelong South Carolinian, Johannah has a master of divinity from Duke Divinity School and a doctor of ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary. Her doctoral project was called “Practicing Faith Together: Messy Church and Disciple Formation” and focused on intergenerational discipleship. When she’s not leading Bible studies or talking about Messy Church, Johannah can most likely be found watching Duke basketball, planning her next trip, or hanging out with her Great Pyrenees, Winifred.
