April is National Poetry Month

Barbour Library invites you to celebrate Poetry Month with our first-ever Haiku Contest!

  • Submissions will be received April 1 to April 25. All PTS students, faculty, and staff are welcome to participate!

  • Haikus must be submitted via the online form. They can be about any topic or subject, but must be original and follow the 5+7+5 rule.

  • You may submit more than one haiku, but can only win one prize. Haikus will be blind judged by a faculty, staff, and student representative as well as library staff. There will be prizes for the top three haikus!

What is a haiku?

  • A traditional Japanese poem compromised of three lines with 17 syllables
  • It follows the 5+7+5 rule:
    An old silent pond...                5
A frog jumps into the pond,     7
    splash! Silence again.              5
