Jesus may have been a carpenter but there are no “shop” classes in Seminary. Few churches have strategies in place to address basic building care problems. As a church leader, what do you do if the boiler goes out or you need a new roof? How do you acquire the skills and resources to take care of your facility? Join us for practical insights on how, why, and when to address issues about your worship site’s physical needs.

Join us Sat., Feb. 15 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. for "This Old Church: The Care and Maintenance of Church Facilities." Presenters will include professionals from the contracting industry, pastors who have successfully navigated major church projects, and fundraising experts.

Topics will include:

  • organizing church officers to address facilities problems and plans,
  • thinking through the logistics of contracting and construction process, including periodic surveys and facilities assessments, and
  • fund-raising.

Participation will be strictly limited to representatives from 20 area churches. We strongly recommend that teams of three delegates from the churches attend, to maximize the usefulness of the event and the ability to collaborate. The ideal team would include the pastor and persons responsible for finances and facilities. Registration fee is $125 and covers materials, refreshments, and lunch for all attendees from a single church community (up to three delegates).

This event is co-sponsored with the Presbyterian Men in Pittsburgh Presbytery and is the first installment in an occasional series, "Things I Didn't Learn in Seminary."

Check out the full schedule and register online.
