Doreen Bowie, Pittsburgh native and current student M.Div. student at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, has long been interested in learning about the Bible. “I yearned to gain a deeper understanding of my relationship with God,” she says.

This interest compelled her to earn her associates in Christian ministry through Geneva College. After graduating, Doreen attended Geneva’s degree completion program, earning her bachelor’s in community ministry. Through her classes and studies, she felt God calling her to look past being a student and to becoming a teacher.

“I want to teach biblical studies at the college level, someday earning my Ph.D. and serving at a seminary. It is my hope to help students grow in the knowledge of God, just as I have.”

Considering her next step—a master’s program—she knew it wasn’t going to be easy.  She needed a school that would fit into her schedule. As a full-time employee, she wanted to attend evening courses at a seminary that would affirm her calling as a woman to ordained ministry. Pittsburgh Theological Seminary was the right fit.

“I have seen God consistently work in my completion of the M.Div. program. Since I began here, God has not failed to successfully give me the strength and power to complete each term. I am always amazed because it has been a struggle to maintain the responsibilities of school, family, work, and church, but God never fails to do more than I can ever think or imagine.”

Hoping to finish in three years, Doreen knows that God is going to continue to be faithful to her in her ministry journey.
