Pittsburgh Theological Seminary will host david m. bailey in concert Fri., July 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the John Knox Room, Long Hall. This event, free and open to the public, is held in conjunction with the 14th annual The Rev. Dr. Roy F. Miller, Ph.D., and Mrs. Florence Lantz Miller Summer Youth Institute.

“David’s life experiences daily shape his music. From growing up in Beirut, to surviving cancer, he grasps the simple treasures of life and puts them into words and music,” explained the Rev. Sherry Sparks, associate dean of admissions at PTS. “His music encourages people to find hope even in dimly lit situations and gives them assurance that God is present.”

After doctors diagnosed Bailey with a brain tumor and gave him months to live, he left his corporate career and returned to his first love of songwriting and performing. Now a 13 plus year survivor with 20 albums to his name and performances in 21 countries and 45 states, Bailey and his music continue to challenge us all to live passionately and treasure the beauty of each new day. The son of Presbyterian missionaries, Bailey spent his childhood in Beirut, Lebanon. His story has been featured on CBS News/48 Hours, 60 Minutes, Fox/Health, Family Health channel, NPR, and dozens of newspapers and magazines across the country. While spending most of his time in his own niche of church and medical venues, he does step out into more traditional music venues.

SYI provides a Christian community challenging youth to grow in faith and gain a deeper understanding of the Gospel and its implications for today’s world. For two weeks, July 17-31, high school scholars from across the United States study the Bible with Pittsburgh Seminary faculty, shadow local pastors, engage in mission with the community, and worship, reflect, and pray daily.
