The Playroom is a private, non-accredited center which offers child care to the students, faculty, and staff of the Seminary. Located in the McMillan apartment building, the Playroom offers care in two different settings. The infant room accepts children from 6 weeks to 2 years of age and preschool room accepts children from 2 1/2 years to 5 years. All children attending must be enrolled in the program have a set weekly schedule.
The Playroom provides a caring atmosphere with mutual respect between a teacher and a child. The emotional, cognitive, social, and physical development of each child is promoted and encouraged. Children are taught to resolve conflicts in ways that are peaceful, acceptable, and promote good decision making. The primary goal of the Playroom is to provide loving, safe, nurturing, and quality child care for children of the Seminary community.
In order to enroll a child in the Playroom, at least one parent must be a student, faculty, or staff member of the Seminary. Spaces are given on a first come, first serve basis. A waiting list will be added when the maximum level of attendance is reached in either of the rooms. If space becomes available, children of residents living and renting Seminary housing may be accepted. Children of the Seminary community will be accommodated first as space is often very limited. Complete the pre-registration form and e-mail or send it to Lisa Bick at email@example.com or 616 N. Highland Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15206.
The Playroom is open Monday-Friday 8:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. for the morning session and from 1:15-4:15 p.m. for the afternoon session. The Lunch Bunch program is offered from 12:15-1:15 p.m. The Extended Day session is offered from 4:15-5:00 p.m. The Playroom follows the Seminary's academic calendar and generally runs from early September to late May. The playroom is closed during all term breaks, holiday breaks, and throughout the summer. Additionally, the Playroom follows the PTS guidelines for weather-related closing and delays.
