James Davison

James E. Davison is the director of Continuing Education, and he also serves as an adjunct professor in Greek language and exegesis. Prior to coming to the Seminary, Davison was senior associate pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Upper St. Clair, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pa. Previously, he was associate professor of religion and philosophy at Sterling College, Kan., from 1976 to 1984.

Davison is a graduate of Westminster College (B.A.). During his junior year, he studied at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. The following summer, he traveled in the Middle East and in Europe. After graduating from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (M.Div.), he returned to Europe to study at the Free University of Amsterdam, where he received a Dutch degree in theology (Doctorandus). He completed his studies in the history of theology at the University of Iowa (Ph.D.).

Davison is the author of the national congregational program, The Year of the Bible, published by the Congregational Ministries Division of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). In addition to a number of articles on theology and New Testament, he has published The Bible Book of the Month; Living Water: A Guide to Baptism for Presbyterians; This Book We Call the Bible: a Study Guide for Adults; and Journey Through the Word: Exploring Biblical Themes (co-authored with Sara Covin Juengst). Davison is available to teach, preach, and lead workshops on a variety of topics. His special focus of interest is on biblical themes, the sacraments, and biblical literacy.
